2023 Interior Design Trends

Updated: Dec 30, 2022

Our homes are where we seek solitude, peace and rest in our daily lives. Therefore, how its interior design makes us feel, whether it makes us happier, healthier or more productive, becomes the top priority.

As the year 2023 approaches, we anticipate a more relaxed take on sophistication than ever before in interior design trends, where design choices continue to be encouraging comfort and tranquillity at home. To put it simply, the main decorating look coming in as a big trend for 2023 is for every room to feel safe and relaxing.

#1 Nature-Inspired Spaces

After spending so much time indoors, many have found a new appreciation for nature's vivacious beauty, colour and life. Hence, the idea of bringing the outside world inside by incorporating natural elements into the interiors will continue to be prevalent in finishes and fittings.

We’ll see more people using materials like marble, rattan, wicker, cane, wool, cotton, bamboo, linoleum and cork across design elements like flooring, furniture and textiles. We’ll also see more colours and tones like greens and blues that are calming and pleasing to the eye.

#2 Micro Luxury Design Trend

Lately, the Micro Luxury trend has gained impressive growth in social media interest. This trend either goes big on a single room or focuses on incorporating statement pieces. While the demand for glamorous interiors is booming, most people are only fitting it into smaller spaces like bathrooms or dining areas for a little extra richness and indulgence in the home.

This could mean a bathroom with a marble effect, gold taps or gold flourishes on the tiling, or it could mean a dining area with a bold statement piece of marble to create a focal point and add a touch of drama.

#3 Fluted Details Trend

As a truly ancient architectural technique, fluting is a series of shallow grooves that run across a surface. These ribbed, vertical columns pack a visual punch with a sense of rhythm and repetition, creating a pleasing play of light and transforming a static space into a room full of movement and texture.

Next year, fluted touches of all kinds will be front and centre. We’re expecting to see fluted details take form on furniture, kitchen cabinetry, bathroom vanities, wall panels and so on.

More and more people will incorporate fluted texture into their homes as it is a fantastic way to add texture and depth to an interior.

#4 At-Home Wellness Oases

With an increased focus on physical wellness, designers are going beyond aesthetics and shifting towards creating spaces that evoke a sense of escape. In fact, wellness design can set the tone for slowing down, escaping the world outside and creating internal environments that stimulate a sense of timelessness and stillness.

Due to a growing preference for designs that elevate one's physical health and mental well-being, we see more people focusing on improving air quality, letting the right amount of natural light in, encouraging more movement and incorporating organic materials such as wood, stone, bamboo, cork, hempcrete and clay into homes to evoke a sense of tranquillity, warmth and comfort, leading to a healthier and happier lifestyle in 2023.
